President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the tragic incident at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, which claimed 35 lives and left many others injured.

Tinubu extended his condolences to the government and people of Oyo State and, most importantly, to the grieving families who have lost their children in the unfortunate event.

This was contained in a Thursday statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga.

It was titled, “Tinubu Expresses Deep Anguish Over Ibadan FunFair Tragedy, Demands Thorough Investigation.”

“This is a deeply painful moment for the entire nation,” Tinubu, adding that, “I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the families enduring this unimaginable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we mourn this tragic occurrence together.”

Determined to prevent similar tragedies, the president has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident.

“We must uncover the truth behind this tragedy.

“It is imperative to determine whether negligence or deliberate actions were involved, ensuring a transparent and accountable process,” the president stated.

He stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable should any form of negligence be uncovered.

This is as he also called on the Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State Government to review and reinforce safety measures at public events across the state.

“This heartbreaking event underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review of safety protocols at all public gatherings.

“Regular safety audits and the strict enforcement of safety regulations must become standard practice to prevent such tragedies in the future,” he noted.

Tinubu urged event organisers nationwide to prioritise the safety of attendees, particularly children, at all times.

“Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount.

“No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives,” the President affirmed.

The president emphasised the critical role of professional security, protocol, and logistics in ensuring that public events meet the highest safety standards.

In closing, Tinubu offered prayers for the souls of the departed, asking that God grant peace to the bereaved families and strength to those still recovering from the trauma of this event.

“May the Almighty comfort the grieving families and bring healing to the injured,” prayed Tinubu.
