Oyebanji Launches Palliative Distribution Initiative For  Ekiti’s Vulnerable Citizens

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, particularly the most vulnerable, through a series of palliative  initiatives.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti  during the EKSG – Bank of Industry (BOI) Palliative Distribution Initiative for the Vulnerable people in the State,  the Governor who was represented by the Secretary to Ekiti State Government, Dr. Habibat Adubiaro said providing succor to the needy , alleviating economic challenges and empowering the citizens are some of the  cornerstones  of his administration.

“This week, the State Executive Council approved a ₦1 billion counterpart fund for MSMEs in partnership with the Bank of Industry. This fund is designed to provide low-interest loans to support business activities and foster growth. Today’s initiative stems from this partnership, addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by our vulnerable citizens and empowering them to build sustainable livelihoods”,he stated .

Acknowledging the strain caused by subsidy removal and the attendant inflation on households, the Governor emphasized that the initiative is both a relief effort and a pathway to economic empowerment.

“Through this partnership with the Bank of Industry, we are delivering direct palliatives to alleviate immediate hardships while simultaneously investing in sustainable economic initiatives. This is not just about providing relief but about restoring hope and demonstrating our care for every Ekiti citizen”, Oyebanji noted.

Governor Oyebanji encouraged beneficiaries to view the palliatives as a symbol of the government’s support and as a call to action for collective progress. “We will continue to prioritize policies and programs that create opportunities and pave the way for a brighter future,” he assured.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the Bank of Industry for their collaboration, which he described as a model of impactful public-private partnership.

He  also commended the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Investment for its dedication to the shared prosperity vision of the state.

Earlier in  her opening remarks, the State Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola, highlighted the Governor’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by residents, particularly in the wake of recent global economic difficulties.

She revealed that the distributed food packages included essentials such as rice, groundnut oil, semovita, wheat, and sugar, carefully selected to meet immediate needs.

In his remarks ,the State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, also lauded the Governor’s efforts, noting that Ekiti State remains one of the most affordable states in terms of food prices due to the administration’s subsidy initiatives.

He said the event was yet another demonstration of the government’s resolve to support vulnerable citizens while fostering economic empowerment and  strengthening the state’s path towards shared prosperity.
