Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has paid glowing tribute to Senator Babafemi Ojudu on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a man of honour, integrity, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress.
In a message released on Wednesday, Prof. Osinbajo said he felt privileged to celebrate Ojudu, whom he described as a trusted friend of over thirty years. He praised the former senator’s steadfast belief in the greatness of a well-governed Nigeria and acknowledged the personal sacrifices he has made over the years in pursuit of national transformation.
“You have shown nothing but an unalloyed belief in the greatness of a properly governed Nigeria,” Osinbajo wrote. “You have made sacrifices—even close to the ultimate at a time.”
Recalling their collaboration during his 2022 presidential bid, Osinbajo noted that Ojudu’s support was rooted in their shared conviction that Nigeria could be transformed through visionary leadership and purposeful governance.
“I recall the many conversations we had, when we reiterated that our country needed a leadership rebirth,” Osinbajo said. “We believed such would require complete honesty of purpose and personal sacrifices.”
Although the effort to secure the presidential ticket did not succeed, Osinbajo emphasized that their ideals remained intact. “Our efforts failed, but not the integrity of our belief or the existential urgency of the needs of our nation,” he said.
The former vice president also lauded Ojudu’s resilience in the face of criticism and adversity, saying he had watched “with great admiration” as the journalist-turned-politician remained courageous and calm amid attacks for challenging the status quo.
Osinbajo ended his tribute on a note of hope and deep appreciation. “The Nigerian enterprise is neither lost nor impossible,” he declared. “In God’s good time this nation will deliver on the hopes and expectations of the patriots before us.”
“Happy Birthday! As your days, so shall your strength, wisdom, and favour with God be, in Jesus’ name. Amen,” he concluded.
