The Chairman of Oyo State Chapter of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) Hon. Gbenga Opaleye has felicitated the people of Oyo on the coronation of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, Elewu Etu1 as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The former caretaker chairman of the Ibadan South/West Local Government of Oyo State in an official statement issued and made available to the press in Ibadan congratulated the entire Oyo Kingdom on the historic coronation of his imperial majesty, saying Alaafin Stool has been a grand patron of the professional boxing body in Oyo State.

Opaleye expressed optimism that the reign of the new Alaafin would usher in an era of peace, progress, and prosperity for the sons and daughters of the ancient town, both at home and in the diaspora, while urging the new monarch to extend his hands of fellowship to the development of boxing sports as it was done by the late Oba Adeyemi.
“I join millions of Yoruba sons and daughters around the world in celebrating this occasion,” Opaleye stated. “The stool of the Alaafin has been a great pillar to the development of the boxing sports in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole hence want to urge our new Kabiyesi to continue from where the late Oba Adeyemi stopped by supporting boxing.”
He, however, extended the greetings from the President of the NBBofC in Nigeria, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo and the entire boxing family in Nigeria to Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, while hailing the emergence of the new monarch and urged all the boxers, coaches and promoters to rally around the new monarch in love, loyalty, and service to the land.
