The National Museum of Unity, Ibadan and the Fan clubs of the late Fuji music icon, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister are now ready to collaborate to sustain the musical heritage of the late musician and promote tourism in Oyo state.
This was revealed during a meeting with the management staff of the National Museum of Unity, Ibadan and the leadership of the Fan club in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state on Tuesday.
In her welcome speech, the Curator, National Museum of Unity, Ibadan, Mrs.Oriyomi Pamela Otuka stated that it is a privilege for the Fan club to associate with the museum and identify with the iconic works of the music legend while adding that the collaboration will help to promote tourism in Oyo state.
She added, “Music cuts across boundaries and it is without borders. It is a unifying ground just like football. Music is an intangible heritage that we are trying to preserve, especially the traditional music. Playing host to the fans of Chief Sikiru Ayinde Barrister is a wonderful thing and we are glad to celebrate the highly respected and originator of the musical legend.
The Curator further revealed that the opening of the cenotaph of the late musical icon will attract more visitors to the museum and transform it to a more vibrant cultural centre.
She said, “Ayinde Barrister is a musician of substance. His type of music is distinct and evergreen and is relevant to the present situation of Nigeria. The cenotaph is a further appreciation of his legendary works and an acceptability of his Fuji music all over the world”.
Speaking further, Ambassador Romoke Ayinde, the Chief Executive Officer of Kayrom Lee Fitness Centre added that the music of late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister is a prophecy and life changer to many Nigerians.
She said, “His music has helped to correct many Nigerian parents who were reluctant in training their children. After listening to his music on family planning, they had a change of heart on the importance of training their children and this reconciles many aggrieved couples”.
Amb. Romoke, however, urged musicians to learn from the late legend to use their musical talents to correct the ills in the society while adding that the works of the Ayinde Barrister will help Nigeria youths to identify that there is beauty in music.
Elder Odeyemi Dayo, the Media and Public Relation Manager of Sikiru Ayinde during his lifetime, revealed that the celebration of the late musical work will show that his music is not dead but transformative.
He added that the exhibition of his works and a cenotaph built in memory of the music legend in the museum will add more credibility to his work and help younger generations to learn more about him.
