The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has called on state governors to support President Bola Tinubu by promoting peace and unity across the country, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic affiliations.
According to a press statement issued by his media aide, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, on Sunday, the monarch made the call on Saturday when he received governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress at his palace in Benin City, Edo State.
He said the president was doing a commendable job in trying to unite the nation despite facing criticism, much like leaders in other parts of the world.
“I am calling on all the governors to support President Bola Tinubu by projecting peace and unity across the country, irrespective of their political, religious, and ethnic inclinations.
“I want you to extend my warm regards to President Bola Tinubu for the wonderful job he is doing in trying to unite the country, despite people saying it is difficult to do so.
“Everybody knows that there is no one who has been at the Presidential Villa who has not been seriously criticised for one thing or the other.
“Even in America and other developed countries, their presidents are bombarded by the opposition—left, right, and centre. So, we should support our own and do our best,” he said.
The royal father also urged Nigerian governors to support Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, whom he praised for giving traditional institutions in the state the respect and recognition they deserve.
Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, solicited prayers and assured the Oba that Okpebholo would fulfil his campaign promises to the people of Edo, including poverty reduction and improved infrastructure across key sectors.
The governors were accompanied by some APC senators and two cabinet members from Tinubu’s administration.
