A motorcyclist and his passenger lost their lives along the Ago-Iwoye/Ilisan Expressway in the Ijebu area of Ogun State after a truck rammed into their motorcycle from behind and fled the scene.
It was learnt on Wednesday from a source who pleaded anonymity that the accident occurred around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Videos and photos of the incident, sighted by our correspondent, showed the victims lying lifeless by the roadside with severe bodily injuries.
In one of the videos, a voice believed to be a relative of the motorcyclist was heard wailing that the victim had only recently collected the motorcycle in an attempt to earn a living. The source said, “An accident occurred along the Ago-Iwoye/Ilisan Expressway on Tuesday that led to the death of a motorcyclist and his passenger.
“They were hit from behind by a truck driver who fled immediately.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, stated that the truck driver fled the scene after the crash.
He identified the vehicles involved as an unidentified truck and a motorcycle with registration number TTN 647 VP.
He said, “According to eyewitnesses around the village, a mini truck, reportedly speeding, hit the motorcycle from behind and drove away.
“Both occupants of the motorcycle died at the scene.
“The presumed dead bodies were taken away by family members for burial rites, while the damaged motorcycle has been taken into police custody for further investigation.”
