Abuja-Kaduna Train Accident: Tinubu’s Govt Sets Up Panel To Probe

The Minister of Transportation, Mr Said Alkali, has constituted a committee to investigate the train derailment which occurred on Tuesday at Jere town while travelling from Abuja to Kaduna.

This is contained in a statement signed by the ministry’s Director of Press and Information, Mrs Janet McDickson, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The committee of all stakeholders is to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the accident.

According to Alkali, the committee will also proffer a permanent solution to the incident.

The minister said the committee would also make recommendations on how to prevent similar incidents in the future and identify ways to enhance the safety and effectiveness of rail transportation in Nigeria.

The statement said the minister expressed concern about the safety of passengers and listed the committee members as follows:

Musa Ibrahim (DOOPST) Chairman; Prof. Danwaka Shuaibu STA (HMT) member; Zirra Finbar (RTS), member; and Mr Omotola Olusegun (Legal), member/secretary.

Others are Dr. Kayode Opeifa (MD NRC), member; I.A Ebuniwe (Inspector Railway), member; a representative of Technics Engineering Architecture Marketing Nig. Ltd, member; representative of CCECC, member; and a representative of Civil Society Organisations, member.

Also included in the committee are one male representing male passengers and one female representing female passengers.
