After Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan defeated Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri 2-1 on Sunday at the Lekan Salami Stadium to earn their first win of the NPFL 2025–26 season, Coach Nurudeen Aweroro has promised to build on the success and fulfil the season’s promises.
They had to fight hard to cling on after the visitors cut the lead in the second half after trailing 0–2 at the interval; thus, the victory was not easily secured.
Skipper Ghali Falke had given the Stars a seventh-minute lead before Sodiq Ibrahim doubled the advantage, handing the hosts a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Kun Khalifat put Shooting Stars’ faithful on the edge of their seats as they pulled a goal back through Ezeoye with 15 minutes left on the clock. However, they were prevented from causing further damage by the hosts, who held on to win the matchday five encounter.
Speaking with the sporting press after the match, the 3SC manager expressed his happiness, recording his first win but saying he never expected the first win to come in week five, but the mistakes they have made as a team before this time has given them good wisdom to deal with other errors.
“I know we shall from now on continue to be winning all our subsequent matches, both home and away. Today’s win will also give the boys the much-needed confidence and motivation because we need such a win to boost our confidence, which we believe will help us to do well. We will continue to psyche ourselves up.”
Reacting to the visitors’ goal in the second half, he averred that “I actually felt bad when the defense conceded a goal because I never want the team to concede any goal, but due to a lack of good communication among the defense line, we continue making avoidable errors.
Aweroro added the match has given them the area that needed to be worked on, and he assured the teeming fans that they will see better improvement, especially at the defense line in the next game.
