Nigeria International, Tolu Arokodare has expressed his excitement after netting his first goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers, while also declaring his determination to score more for the Premier League side.
Arokodare, who joined Wolves in the summer, opened his account in his side’s Carabao Cup clash against Everton at Molineux on Tuesday night. The striker was introduced in the 68th minute as a replacement for Strand Larsen and wasted no time making an impact.
With just three minutes left on the clock, Arokodare doubled Wolves’ lead, calmly finishing off a brilliant setup from fellow substitute Joao Gomes. His effort sealed a comfortable win for the Old Gold, booking their place in the next round of the competition.
The Super Eagles prospect could not hide his delight, taking to social media to share his excitement with fans. “First goal in gold and we pray for more. Next round let’s go!! #teatime,” he posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
In a related development, coach Vitor Pereira has applauded Arokodare on his first goal for Wolves, adding his addition is a major boost to his side.
“When we are expecting a strong shot on the goal, because he has the confidence in himself. Of course, he is not in his shape physically speaking. Larsen today worked a lot for the team, and after Tolu went inside and he helped us. This is the spirit that I want to see,” the coach told the club’s official website.
He added: “Tolu came in the moment that we didn’t have Jorgen to play. The plan was not to play with him 90 minutes, the plan was to give him time to adapt and to start getting minutes. He needs to work hard to get his condition, and he will help us.”
Speaking in the same vein, striker Marshall Munetsi who opened Wolves’ score sheet in the 2-0 win over Everton , has thrown his weight behind the 24-year-old Nigerian to be a consistent performer for Pereira’s side as they push for success in both the domestic league and cup competitions.
“We were actually joking, because I wanted to see the celebration. So, it was really nice for him also to score, I think he’s going to be very important for us this season. It’s a League Cup game, but going to the league, I think it’s very, very good for him to get that confidence boost.”
