It was a moment of deep spiritual fulfillment and celebration on Sunday evening at the historic Southwark Cathedral, London, as Dr. Dayo Olomu was formally licensed and anointed into the office of a Reader (Lay Minister) by the Bishop of Southwark, the Rt. Rev. Christopher Chessun.
The solemn yet joyous service marked the culmination of Dr. Olomu’s two-year journey of theological study and formation at St Augustine’s College of Theology, a period he described as one of profound learning, growth, and spiritual transformation.
Being licensed as a Reader in the Church of England is a significant step in ministry — a calling that carries the threefold mission of teaching the faith, enabling others in mission, and providing leadership both within the church and in society.
Speaking on the milestone, Dr. Olomu expressed heartfelt gratitude to his family, friends, and members of the Croydon community who turned out in large numbers to support him.
“It is a privilege to take on this role,” he said. “I am deeply thankful for everyone who has supported me on this path, and I am excited to see where this calling leads. A new chapter begins.”
Known for his inspiring work as a motivational speaker, leadership coach, author, and community leader, Dr. Olomu has for decades combined professional excellence with a passion for mentoring and service. His transition into lay ministry adds a new dimension to his life’s mission of empowering others and promoting faith in action.
The Southwark Diocese’s recognition of Dr. Olomu’s commitment to faith and service underscores his growing influence within the church community and beyond.
With this new appointment, Dr. Olomu joins the ranks of lay ministers who bridge the sacred and the secular — bringing spiritual insight, compassion, and leadership into everyday life.
