The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Olusola Ladoja has disclosed that the acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan (TPI), Dr Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, has earned the confidence and trust of Nigerian Students and the student body has consequently passed a vote of confidence on him.
The NANS President who led his national executives and over 200 students on courtesy visit on the Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan noted that NANS had been enjoying robust relationship with Dr Taiwo Lasisi during his days as Dean of Students, The Polytechnic, Ibadan
The NANS President further observed that Dr Lasisi has been able to systematically solve problems inherited and fresh issues in the institution to the advantage of students.
While acknowledging the support of the management team and government for the acting Rector, the NANS President also advised his colleagues to always embrace the principle of consultation, consolidation, and communication on issues with the authorities of their various institutions stressing that confrontation should be the last option and should be sparingly employed.
On the issue of migration to a new portal by the institution, he advised that it should be handled meticulously in the interest of the students.
Speaking in the same vein, the president of TPI student’s union executives, Mr. Daniel Olamide Oladipupo gave kudos to the acting Rector of TPI Dr Taiwo Abideen Lasisi for not only restoring electricity in the institution but also securing regular supply of electricity into the institution.
He further said that the decentralisation of computation of results to the academic departments also assisted in the early mobilisation of products of the institution for the national youth service corps.
In her response, the deputy Rector of the institution, Mrs Olaide Salawu, who represented the acting Rector, appreciated the NANS for noticing the positive changes going on in the institution .
As done during the last graduation ceremony, when certificates of graduating students were ready for collection , Mrs Salawu said it has now become the tradition of the institution that certificates would henceforth be ready for collection, even on graduation day .
On the portal issue, she said the policy was introduced in July, adding that it was meant to serve the students and other publics of the institution better.
The new portal was introduced with the full knowledge of the state ministry of education science and technology, Mrs Salawu further said.
