Popular fuji musician and trending ‘were la fi n wo were’ creator, Taye (Akande Adebisi) Currency has strongly urged President Bola Tinubu to be creative as he embarks on the onerous task of battling insecurity in Nigeria.
The musician made this call while chatting exclusively with PMParrot on Wednesday evening.
Currency expressed sadness over the seeming inability of the present administration to leash bandits and others who seem to be having a field day killing, maiming and kidnapping residents of Nigeria.
“I am very unhappy that Nigerians now live in fear. Look at what happened in Kwara when innocent people were kidnapped right inside a church while they were worshipping God. It was the height of lawlessness and the camera captured the bandits live!”
The Ibadan-based musician added enthusiastically, “my suggestion to Baba Tinubu is that he should look inwards for solution, deploy ‘were la fi n wo werey’ tactic.”
Currency continued “Look, a lot of people will say Taye Currency is an illiterate, he is this, he is that. But I really know what I am doing. Nigeria is a funny place. You need to be crazy a little bit before the system that operates in the country will allow you to thrive.
“Baba Tinubu will not be allowed to fulfil his campaign promises to Nigerians if he does not deploy some kind of ‘crazeman tactic’. They want to make him lose focus. So, he must fight back.”
When asked why he actually rendered the now popular ‘were la fi n wo werey’ song on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Mapo Hall in Ibadan during the coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Currency had this to say: “You see, it was a thing of impulse. I just looked at all the various categories of politicians present at the Mapo Hall venue of the installation – many of them where there to package themselves and strategize. Many are gunning for their party’s gubernatorial, senatorial and other tickets. And they were ready to do anything to get recognised at the occasion. That was how I came up with the song.”
As if borrowing from the ‘metaphor’ argument pushed forward by those who have been supporting his ‘werey la fi n wo were’ lyrics, Currency said, “the music should not be dismissed or ignored by those who want to be successful in Nigeria and even elsewhere. Forget the messenger. Focus on the message in the music.”
Baba Honourable, as he is also fondly called continued “look at the United States of America, as developed as it is, President Donald Trump deployed many tactics that can be described as more lunatic. He is there today as the President of the greatest country in the world.
“Let’s come back home, let’s talk about former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Did he not order that one small town, Odi, in the eastern part of the country to be levelled up? How will you describe that presidential order?
As for President Tinubu again, I am sure you remember the way he got his party’s presidential ticket three years ago. He ran rings around his enemies and got the ticket. It was more than ‘were la fi n wo were’.
“Okay, let us talk about our local leaders here in Oyo State. Let me start from our father, Kabiyesi, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. You remember he was yanked out of office by President Olusegun Obasanjo. He deployed ‘werey’, went to court and won. He was almost deprived of the opportunity to become the Olubadan. We all can remember the battles he fought.
“But then, just last Monday, my governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde warned those planning to rig their way into power in the state in 2027 to think twice. He openly told them that ‘were la fi maa wo were’ in 2027.
“What about late Governor Abiola Ajimobi? Can you remember some of his tactics? Have you forgotten about late Baba Lamidi Adedibu? Have you been reading about the ongoing battle between former Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose and Baba Obasanjo?
“Look, by the grace of God, I am one of the most authentic musicians ever produced by Nigeria. I am a showbiz man. I pass my message to all. Yours is to take it or leave it. I am putting together some kind of history for the future generation to examine.
“I will also say it here that God gave me a deep sense of focus. An enduring ability to be creative and I am business minded. I know my onions. I know my duties as an entertainer and political activist.
Currency then used the opportunity to appreciate his fans all over the world for their support at all times.
“Yes o! Without God and my fans, I am nothing. I am grateful to them for always supporting me. I pledge to work harder to keep them happy. They should watch out, I have more creative offerings for them in the months to come.”
