The Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns by two weeks, shifting the due date to April 14, 2026, from the initial March 31 deadline.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the agency’s executive chairman, Olaniran Olatona, said the extension was intended to give taxpayers more time to accurately complete and submit their returns.
Mr. Olatona noted that March 31 remains the official filing deadline each year, but said the additional time was granted to ease compliance, particularly as this marks the first cycle under the current system.
He urged individuals to regard timely tax filing as a civic duty and a standard annual obligation.
Olatona also reiterated that all submissions must be made electronically via the EKIRS e-Tax platform, emphasizing that manual filings are no longer accepted.
Taxpayers were encouraged to take advantage of the extension, as further extensions are unlikely.
Describing the e-Tax platform as secure and user-friendly, Mr. Olatona advised taxpayers to file exclusively through the official portal.
For further information or assistance, taxpayers may visit EKIRS offices or contact the agency through its official website and communication channels, including social media and customer care lines.
Meanwhile, student leaders under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students have endorsed Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for a second term in office.
The students, from various institutions and youth bodies, said their decision stemmed from an assessment of projects executed by the Oyebanji administration, which they described as impactful and people-oriented.
The students commenced their tour at the newly constructed Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service headquarters in Ado-Ekiti before visiting other major projects, including the ongoing flyover, the 80-bed hospital at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, facilities within Ekiti State University, the 18.2-kilometre Ring Road Phase 1, and the Ekiti Cargo International Airport.
Speaking on behalf of the students, former South-West Coordinator of NANS, Taiwo Owolewa, said the visit provided an opportunity for students to independently verify government claims on infrastructure delivery.
