The Oyo State Police Command has deployed comprehensive security measures across the state ahead of the Easter celebration to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free festivity.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said the measures were in line with the directive and policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at strengthening public safety and boosting citizens’ confidence.
The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, “extends warm congratulations to the Christian faithful on the occasion of Easter” and urged citizens to imbibe “the teachings of Jesus Christ by embracing love, sacrifice, humility, and peaceful coexistence,” while reflecting on the lessons of Lent and offering prayers for peace, unity, and progress.
The commissioner reassured residents of the command’s commitment to security, stating its “unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property before, during, and after the celebration,” with security agencies working in synergy to ensure coverage across “worship centres, recreational facilities, major highways, and other public spaces.”
Emphasising the role of the public, the commissioner called for cooperation, stressing that “accurate and timely information remains the fuel upon which effective policing thrives,” adding that without it, operations would be significantly challenged. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency channels.
The statement added that the commissioner appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olutunji Rilwan Disu, for his “visionary leadership and continued support,” which have enhanced operational effectiveness within the command.
The command also wished Christian faithful a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration and advised residents to use the Oyo State Call Response Center toll-free line 615 or the control room numbers 08081768614 and 07055495413 in case of emergencies.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has deployed a total of 1,715 personnel, including specialized tactical units, to ensure a safe, peaceful, and hitch-free 2026 Easter celebration across the state.
The State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, announced that the deployment is part of a comprehensive security arrangement aimed at protecting lives, property, and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure before, during, and after the Easter festivities.
He stated that, in addition to regular personnel, the Command has strategically deployed its tactical and specialized units, including the Intelligence Team for covert surveillance and information gathering, the Armed Squad for rapid armed intervention, the Counter Terrorism Unit to address potential high-risk threats, the Agro Rangers Unit to secure farmlands and rural communities, and the Emergency Response Team for swift response to emergencies and disasters.
