President Bola Tinubu will on Sunday receive the Certificate of Return and party flag of the All Progressives Congress as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
This follows the conclusion of the party’s direct primary exercise conducted across all 8,809 wards nationwide on Saturday.
A statement signed and released on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the Presidential Primary Elections Committee will present the certificate and flag at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja after the nationwide collation of primary election results, which currently show him in the lead against his sole opponent, Stanley Osifo.
Onanuga said APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, and the National Assembly, as well as party stalwarts, are expected at the event.
Tinubu contested the primary against businessman Osifo of Edo State, the only other aspirant who purchased the N100m presidential nomination form, after a planned consensus arrangement collapsed.
The presidential primary was held through direct voting in each of the country’s wards, making it the first of its kind in the APC’s history.
It follows the Electoral Act 2026, which Tinubu signed in February, mandating parties to adopt either consensus or direct primary methods.
Tinubu voted at his Ward L2 polling unit in Ikoyi-Obalende, Lagos, on Saturday alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and was received by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos APC chairman, and other senior party figures.
He described the exercise as “a demonstration of internal democracy” and said he was “very, very satisfied” with how governors had managed the process across their states.
Sunday’s presentation will mark the formal beginning of Tinubu’s official 2027 campaign, having secured the ruling party’s ticket.
