The Executive Chairman of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, Alhaji Abdulrahman Olanrewaju Adepoju, has congratulated Nigerians, particularly the good people of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
In his Democracy Day message, the Chairman described June 12 as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, symbolizing the triumph of the people’s will, the resilience of democratic institutions and the collective aspiration for a better nation.
The Executive Chairman reiterated that Democracy Day provides an opportunity for leaders and citizens alike to reflect on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes and recommit themselves to the ideals of justice, accountability, peace and good governance.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ibadan Northwest Local Government through improved infrastructure, quality healthcare delivery, environmental sustainability, youth empowerment, and other people-oriented programmes.
As we commemorate Democracy Day, let us remain united, vigilant, and committed to building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous society. Together, we can overcome our challenges and strengthen the foundations of our democracy for future generations,” he said.
While celebrating the gains of democracy, Alhaji Adepoju expressed concern over the growing security challenges confronting the country, particularly the incidents of kidnapping and other criminal activities that continue to threaten the peace and stability of communities.
The Chairman specifically sympathized with the families of the pupils, teachers, and other victims affected by the recent abduction incident in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State. He described the incident as unfortunate, painful and condemnable, noting that no child should be denied access to education due to insecurity.
He said, “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims, the people of Orire Local Government and the Government of Oyo State at this difficult time. I share in their pain and anguish and pray for the safe release of all those still in captivity. I also commend the efforts of the security agencies and the Oyo State Government towards ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
Alhaji Adepoju further urged all levels of government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents to work together in combating insecurity and safeguarding communities against criminal elements.
The Executive Chairman, on behalf of all his working cabinet, wishes all residents of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, Oyo State and Nigerians at large a peaceful and meaningful Democracy Day celebration.
