Emmanuel Alayande University Appoints Raimi As Deputy Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, has approved the appointment of Dr. Sikiru Morakinyo Raimi as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

According to a statement signed by the registrar and secretary to the council, Mrs. Olubunmi Siju Asunmo, the appointment takes effect from June 19, 2026, and will run for an initial term of two years.

Dr Raimi, an associate professor in the Department of Biology and Integrated Science, was born on December 27, 1959, in the Oyo West Local Government Area of Oyo State. He hails from the Chief Ona-Isokun family of Oyo.

He attended R.C.M. Primary School, Asogo, Oyo, from 1966 to 1971 and later proceeded to Oranyan Grammar School, Oyo, where he obtained his West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) in 1978. He earned a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in biology and chemistry from the then Oyo State College of Education, Ilesa (Oyo Campus), in 1983.

Driven by a passion for higher education, he gained admission into the University of Benin through direct entry and obtained a Bachelor of Education degree in science education (chemistry) in 1987. He subsequently earned a master’s degree in science education from the University of Ibadan in 1991 and later obtained a Ph.D. in science education, specialising in chemistry, from the same institution in 2002.

Dr. Raimi began his teaching career during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at Government Secondary School, Ulayi, Otukpo, Benue State, between 1983 and 1984. He later served as a classroom teacher under the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) from 1984 to 1990.

In 1990, he was appointed Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Biology and Integrated Science at the then St Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo. Through dedication and hard work, he rose through the ranks to become chief lecturer in integrated science in 2007.

Following the upgrade of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education to a university, he was redesignated as senior lecturer in biology and integrated science. He has taught numerous undergraduate courses and supervised more than 50 undergraduate research projects.

Throughout his career, Dr. Raimi has held several administrative positions. These include Acting Head, Department of Integrated Science (1998–2000); Head of Department (2000–2004); Director, Centre for Management Information System (CMIS) (2004–2008); Dean, School of Science (2009–2010); TETFund Desk Officer (2014–2016); and Assistant Director, Full-Time Degree Programme of Ekiti State University in affiliation with Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (2016–2020).

He currently serves as Head of the Department of Integrated Science, a position he has held since the institution attained university status in 2023.

Dr Raimi has also made significant contributions to the growth and development of the institution through various committee assignments and leadership roles. He served as a member of the Governing Council of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education between 2009 and 2011 and has chaired and served on several strategic committees at both the college and university levels.

Professionally, he is a member of several academic and professional bodies, including the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), the Nigerian Integrated Science Teachers Project, the Aminu Kano Academic Scholars Association (AKASA), and the Science and Technology Awareness Network (STANET), among others.

An accomplished scholar, Dr Raimi has published more than 70 scholarly articles in reputable journals, conference proceedings, textbooks, and monographs. He has authored one textbook and co-authored four others. He has also attended over 40 academic conferences within and outside Nigeria.

Dr. Raimi was married to the late Mrs. Bolatito Ogunpeju Raimi, and the union is blessed with children.

Congratulating the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, urged him to deploy his wealth of experience towards advancing the university’s vision and mission.

“The approval of the Senate’s recommendation by the Governing Council reflects its confidence in your ability to deliver. I welcome you into the university administration and look forward to your contributions as an alumnus, scholar, and administrator. Congratulations, and I wish you a successful tenure,” the vice-chancellor said.
