The Fight Gist Media Boxing Award was established to promote Nigerian boxing and its athletes while positioning them on the global stage. It is an initiative dedicated to spotlighting Nigerian boxing talent, encouraging fighters to continually improve their performances, and contributing to the overall growth and development of the sport across the country.
Beyond recognizing excellence, the award serves as an important platform for documenting achievements within Nigerian boxing, preserving the rich history of the sport, and giving deserving fighters the visibility they need. By drawing the attention of international promoters, talent scouts, and sponsors, the initiative helps bridge the gap between local boxers and global opportunities.
The award also plays a significant role in strengthening Nigeria’s boxing culture by inspiring young and aspiring fighters to view boxing as a viable and rewarding career. Through consistent recognition of excellence, it promotes discipline, dedication, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among athletes.
Furthermore, the Fight Gist Media Boxing Award contributes to the expansion of the boxing ecosystem by engaging fans, the media, stakeholders, and corporate partners. It creates opportunities for sponsorships and strategic partnerships that can support the development of boxing gyms, training programs, and competitive events throughout Nigeria.
Overall, the Fight Gist Media Boxing Award is more than an awards ceremony—it is a long-term commitment to building a sustainable future for Nigerian boxing and ensuring that the nation’s boxing talents receive the recognition and opportunities they deserve.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Fight Gist Media, Akinlade Abiodun Sunday, this year’s edition of the Fight Gist Media Boxing Award will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the NIS Conference Hall, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, with the event scheduled to commence at 4:00 p.m.
