The Biodun Oyebanji-led government in Ekiti State has banned ‘sign-out’ activities in secondary schools across the state, describing the practice as unacceptable and warning that violators will face sanctions.

The directive is contained in a circular issued by the State Ministry of Education and made available to newsmen on Monday in Ado-Ekiti.

According to the circular, the ministry observed with concern the growing trend of students engaging in “sign-out” celebrations after completing their external examinations.

It noted that the activities often involve splashing school uniforms with ink, writing on uniforms, harassment, molestation and other indecent behaviour.

The ministry said such acts were inconsistent with the values of discipline and decency expected of students in the state.

The act is unacceptable in Ekiti State and will be punished,” the circular stated.

The government directed principals of all public and private secondary schools to ensure discipline, decorum and good conduct among students, particularly at the end of external examinations.

It also urged school authorities to give the circular wide publicity and ensure strict compliance with the directive.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline and promoting responsible behaviour in schools across the state.
