The former First Lady of Oyo State, Dr Florence Ajimobi, has formally resumed her diplomatic duties as the ambassador and permanent representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Austria and the international organisations in Vienna.
Ajimobi announced her arrival in a Facebook post on Friday, saying she was received at the VIP wing of the Vienna International Airport by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy and Permanent Mission, Mr. Muyiwa Onifade, alongside officials of the mission and members of the Nigerian community in Austria.
“Today, I arrived in Vienna to assume duty as the ambassador and permanent representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Austria and the international organisations in Vienna,” she wrote.
She was also welcomed by home-based officers, local staff, and leaders of various Nigerian community organisations in Austria, including the Oduduwa group, the Igbo cultural group, the Nigeria-Austria Friendship Group, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), and the Nigerian Students Association in Austria.
Expressing appreciation for the warm reception, Ambassador Ajimobi described it as a demonstration of the unity, patriotism, and commitment of Nigerians in the diaspora towards the nation’s progress.
She reaffirmed her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, strengthening the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Austria, and deepening cooperation with the various international organisations headquartered in Vienna.
She said, “I am deeply grateful for the warm and heartfelt welcome accorded to me upon my arrival in Vienna. I look forward to working closely with the staff of the mission, the Nigerian community, the Austrian government, and our international partners to further strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding between Nigeria and Austria.”
The ambassador further pledged to promote Nigeria’s interests in diplomacy, trade, investment, education, culture, technology and multilateral engagement while fostering stronger collaboration with Nigerians living in Austria.
Dr Ajimobi’s assumption of duty marks the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with Austria and the international organisations based in Vienna, with a renewed focus on enhancing strategic partnerships that will contribute to Nigeria’s national development and global standing.
As Nigeria’s envoy to Austria, Ajimobi will also serve as the country’s permanent representative to the international organisations headquartered in Vienna, including several United Nations agencies.
