The family of a 16-year-old boy, Akinbolaji Timileyin, has appealed for financial assistance to enable him to undergo surgery for a right inguinal hernia.
Timileyin, who was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia, was reportedly taken to Oromidayo Medicare Centre after he developed severe abdominal and scrotal pain.
Medical Report
A medical report from the centre stated that Timileyin was rushed to the hospital with complaints of severe aches.
“The above-named was rushed to our clinic with complaints of severe abdominal ache with scrotal ache,” the document partly stated.
Scan
A scan conducted at Joy Medical Diagnostic Centre, Ijoko, Ogun State, also revealed a compressible mass measuring approximately 98mm by 76mm in the right upper quadrant of the pelvic canal.
“However, noted in the right upper quadrant of the pelvic canal, there is an hyper echogenic pattern of a compressible mass measuring about 98mm × 76mm, associated probe tenderness suggestive of RIGHT INGUINAL HERNIA,” the medical centre stated in a separate report.
Further Scan
The scan further stated that both testes had smooth outlines, homogeneous echo patterns and normal sizes, with no mass or cyst observed in the right scrotum.
The impression at the time of the scan was “right inguinal hernia,” with medical attention advised.
Speaking with our correspondent on Monday, Timileyin’s mother, Akinbolaji Nofisat, said the condition became noticeable after her son’s private part and stomach became swollen.
She said, “His private part got swollen, and it also affected his stomach, leading to the swelling of both parts. We took him to the hospital, and we were told he would be operated on, which will cost ₦400,000.
“The doctor said to save his life, he will sustain him first while we gather the money.”
Nofisat said the condition initially began with stomach pain, adding that the family had tried different herbal concoctions before seeking medical attention.
“It all started with stomach pain, and different herbal concoctions have been given to him, thinking it will cure him, but it did not,” she said.
The mother said the family had so far raised N100,000, leaving a balance of ₦300,000 needed for the operation.
“We have been able to raise ₦100,000. It remains ₦300,000. We seek financial help because it is the only thing delaying the operation,” she appealed.
