Oyo State political figure Oloye Saheed Oladele and his running mate, Mrs. Damola Jaiye, have joined the African Action Congress (AAC) following Oladele’s resignation from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The development was announced in a statement issued by the Saheed Oladele Media Office on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Oladele’s campaign office in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Oladele, who had earlier formally resigned from the SDP on September 16, said his decision to join the AAC was informed by his commitment to good governance and humanitarian-oriented politics.
According to him, his political vision aligns with what he described as the people-centered principles being championed by Omoyele Sowore, the AAC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Sowore emerged as the party’s presidential candidate at its May 2026 primary.
Explaining the decision, Oladele said he was attracted to the AAC because of what he described as Sowore’s concern for the welfare of Nigerians and his advocacy for good governance.
He said: “The idea of joining the African Action Congress was born out of my love for good governance and the humanitarian support championed by the leader of the party, Comrade Omoyele Sowore.”
Oladele further described Sowore as a leader who, in his view, has the interest of the people at heart, stressing that his own political ideals are compatible with those of the AAC presidential candidate.
He called on the people of Oyo State to remain confident in the political direction he and his team have chosen, saying the time had come for greater youth participation and leadership in the state.
Oladele urged his supporters and residents of Oyo State to remain committed to the cause, expressing optimism that the new political platform would provide an avenue for young people to play a more prominent role in the state’s political affairs.
The announcement marks another development in the evolving political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.
