Turkish Super Lig giants, Fenerbahçe, are reportedly considering a January move for Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, following the Bursaspor forward’s impressive start to life in Turkey.
Iheanacho, who joined Bursaspor on a free transfer in the summer, has wasted little time making his mark, delivering a remarkable return of 16 goals and three assists in just 12 league appearances for the Green Crocodiles.
His outstanding performances have reportedly attracted the attention of Fenerbahçe, with Turkish news outlet HT Spor claiming that the Istanbul giants are weighing up a January swoop for the 30-year-old.
Fenerbahçe are keen to strengthen their attacking options as they look to mount a serious title challenge and close the gap on city rivals Galatasaray.
The Yellow Canaries currently occupy fifth position in the Turkish Süper Lig standings, having collected 16 points from their opening nine matches.
Fenerbahçe have recently undergone a managerial change, with İsmail Kartal departing his position following their derby defeat to Galatasaray.
Former Liverpool winger Dirk Kuyt has subsequently been appointed interim manager as Fenerbahçe looks to steady the ship and revive their campaign.
Iheanacho’s impressive goalscoring form could make him an attractive January target as Fenerbahçe seek to add more firepower to their attack.
Meanwhile, Bursaspor president Enes Çelik has revealed that the club would only consider selling Iheanacho if they receive an exceptional offer.
His impressive performances have reportedly attracted interest from Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahçe, who are said to be considering a move for the striker in January.
Çelik, however, insists Bursaspor have no intention of letting the 30-year-old leave easily, although the club’s board would be willing to consider an offer that meets their expectations.
“If a poll were conducted, I’m sure 99% of people would vote for him not to be sold. I understand that, but we cannot look at things purely from an emotional perspective. We also have to consider the situation rationally,” Celik told Gol TV.
“Iheanacho is a player who can score goals even when there seems to be no real goalscoring opportunity. I am the person who wants him to stay at the club more than anyone.
“However, there could be some truly extraordinary offers on the table. If that happens, we will consider them as a board. Ultimately, we set out to make decisions that are in the best interests of the club.
“At that point, it would have to be a good offer—in fact, an offer far beyond what would normally be considered good.
“He is not a player we would easily allow to leave. He also wants to bring a significant amount of money into the club. He is genuinely a good character.
“It wouldn’t be right to mention a specific figure, but I can assure you that if an offer comes in that satisfies everyone, it will be an amount that makes us say, ‘Yes, he can be sold for that.’”
