President Bola Tinubu and other prominent Nigerians have been celebrating legendary thespian, dramatist, and scholar, Dr Kola Oyewo on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
According to a statement from the Presidency, Tinubu praised Dr Oyewo who turned 80 on Friday, March 27, 2026 for being a shining example when the issue involves creativity.
With a career spanning over five decades, Oyewo has made significant contributions to Nollywood and Nigerian theatre.
Born in 1946 in Oba Ile, Osun State, Oyewo’s acting journey began in 1964 with the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group.
He gained prominence with his role as “Odewale” in Ola Rotimi’s “The Gods Are Not to Blame” and went on to star in notable films like “Sango”, “Super Story”, and “Saworoide”.
A Ph.D. holder in Drama from the University of Ibadan, Oyewo has taught at several Nigerian universities, including Obafemi Awolowo University and Redeemer’s University.
He currently lectures at Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State.
Oyewo’s dedication to promoting Yoruba culture and his enduring impact on Nigerian entertainment have earned him widespread recognition and admiration.
