To promote high ethical standards, accountability, and adherence to regulatory requirements in project management, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) are collaborating to intensify advocacy for mandatory licensing and professional compliance in project management practice, starting with a public awareness walk.
The Awareness Walk organised by the two agencies, seeks to sensitise stakeholders and the general public to the importance of engaging only certified and licensed project management professionals in both public and private sector projects.
The NOA’s Public Outdoor Van accompanied the participants throughout the walk, providing members of the public with information on the registration process for interested individuals, while officials and volunteers distributed Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials on professional project management to residents and passersby.
In his address, the Chairman of the Council, Chief Olabode Afolayan, added that the Awareness Walk was also organised to sensitise the public and stakeholders on the enforcement of project management licensing in the country, stressing the need for only certified and licensed professionals to handle projects to promote accountability, professionalism, and effective project delivery.
Also speaking, the Registrar-General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe, noted that licensing is mandatory for individuals involved in managing or teaching project management, regardless of the certifications they possess, adding that anyone found practising without a valid licence is liable to a two-year term of imprisonment.
The walk commenced at the Old Federal Secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and moved through Areas 3, 7, 8, 10, and 11, extending to the Central Area before culminating at the Federal Secretariat in the Central Business District.
