Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan of Borno Central has distributed ₦135,650,000 to All Progressives Congress (APC) executives across his constituency ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and many Nigerians have been reacting to this.
The disbursement was confirmed in a statement by his legislative assistant, Usman Alkali, who said the funds were shared to support party executives during the festive period. According to the statement, this is the third time the senator has made such financial support since assuming office in the National Assembly.
The aide added that the gesture was meant to appreciate party loyalty and strengthen political structures within the constituency.
The senator reportedly distributed the funds across APC executives in Borno Central on Thursday, ahead of the Sallah festivities.
Lawan had earlier withdrawn from the Borno governorship race and endorsed a rival candidate backed by Governor Babagana Zulum, while retaining his Senate seat.
Many Nigerians have since been condemning the public display of humongous cash despite the ‘cashless’ policy of the government in power in the country.
