Glorious Boxing Promotions on Sunday, 7th June, staged a boxing event tagged “Fight Until The Killings Stop” at the indoor sports hall of the former Liberty Stadium, now known as Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, as part of efforts to lend its voice to the campaign against insecurity and violent killings across the country.
The boxing show attracted a large crowd of sports enthusiasts and boxing lovers who turned out in impressive numbers to witness thrilling amateur boxing contests and professional boxing bouts organized to promote peace, unity, and public awareness on the need to end insecurity.
The event featured several exciting amateur bouts, providing a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills, while seven professional boxing contests delivered high-level action that kept spectators on the edge of their seats throughout the evening.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the organizers Ganiyu Oladayo, the CEO of Glorious Promotions, stated that the “Fight Until The Killings Stop” initiative was conceived to use sports as a tool for advocacy, drawing attention to the growing concerns over insecurity and the need for collective efforts to restore peace and safety in communities across Nigeria.
Also speaking during the event, Hon. Gbenga Opaleye, the Chairman of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) Oyo State chapter, said all the professional fights produced impressive performances from participating boxers, who displayed determination, discipline, and sportsmanship inside the ring, while expressing satisfaction with their conduct on and off the ring.
Edna Aiyegbeni, the Chairperson of Oyo State Amateur Boxing Association (OSABA), also commended the amateur boxers for their good display during the contests, which she claimed highlighted the abundance of boxing talent within the Oyo State and reinforced the role of grassroots competitions in developing future champions.
Fans who attended the event praised Glorious Promotions for combining entertainment with a social message, noting that sports remain a powerful platform for promoting awareness and fostering national unity.
The successful staging of the boxing show further underscored the commitment of Glorious Promotions to the development of boxing in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole while using the sport to advocate for positive social change.
Oladayo, however, expressed appreciation to boxing stakeholders, fans, officials, and security agencies whose support contributed to the success of the event, while reiterating his call for an end to violence and killings and other vices associated with the insecurity in the country.
