Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for religious institutions that work to promote peace, unity, and development in the state.
Makinde stated this on Saturday at the 120th anniversary celebration of the First Baptist Church, Idikan, Ibadan, the state capital.
The governor congratulated the church and the Nigerian Baptist Convention on the milestone, describing the church as a longstanding institution that has contributed to the spiritual and social development of the state.
“I congratulate First Baptist Church, Idikan, on the celebration of 120 years. My prayer is that the glory of the next 120 years will surpass the past 120 years,” he said.
He commended the church’s leadership and members for their contribution to community service and nation-building over the past 120 years.
The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. David Idowu, presented an award to the Governor, thanking him for attending the anniversary and donating a Hummer bus to support the church’s evangelical activities.
The celebration included prayers for Governor Makinde, Oyo State, and Nigeria.
Among those who attended were former Nigerian Baptist Convention President and former National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Samson Ayokunle; President of the Ibadan Baptist Conference, Rev. Dr. Oyekola Bamidele; Minister in Charge of First Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Solomon Oyelami; and Chief Niyi Akintola, SAN.
