The Police Service Commission has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers over established cases of serious misconduct and conduct unbecoming of officers of the law.

The commission also approved the reduction in rank of 16 officers, while 21 others received severe reprimands and two were issued ordinary reprimands.

However, three officers were exonerated, while some previously suspended officers were reinstated into the Nigeria Police Force.

The decisions were reached at the commission’s plenary meeting, presided over by its Chairman, Hashimu Argungu, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the PSC, Torty Kalu.

Kalu said the commission had zero tolerance for corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, and other forms of misconduct among police officers.

“The Police Service Commission has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers following established cases of serious misconduct and conduct unbecoming of officers of the law.

“In a major disciplinary sweep, 16 officers have been reduced in rank, 21 officers received severe reprimands, and 2 officers were issued ordinary reprimands. Meanwhile, 3 officers were exonerated from wrongdoing, and some previously suspended officers were reinstated into the Force.

“Reaffirming the commission’s zero tolerance for corruption, human rights abuses, meddling in land and civil matters, and other acts of misconduct in the Force, DIG Argungu assured the public of continuous speedy dispensation of disciplinary matters before the Commission,” the statement read.

Argungu assured Nigerians that the Commission would sustain the speedy determination of disciplinary cases brought before it.

He also commended the Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, Paul Galumje, and other board members for their commitment to the consideration of disciplinary cases and appeals.
