Oyo Assembly Signs Anti Graft Bill Into Law At Last

At long last, the Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the Oyo State Anti Graft Agency Bill into law.

The bill according to the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin is to drastically reduce the rate at which people engage in corruption in the state.

The bill was passed into law after the Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Olatunde Kehinde, representing Akinyele Il state constituency presented the report before the House.

Speaking on the benefit of the Anti Graft Law, Hon. Ogundoyin said the law is to control finances and to avoid corruption.

His words, “It is a way to domesticate the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) in our state.

“It is something to make sure that public officers, be it political appointee, civil servant and private worker are all answerable to the law and its agency.”

Hon. Ogundoyin added that the legislative arm of Oyo State government is doing this in order to boost the confidence in the people of the state and demonstrate Governor Seyi Makinde’s government’s zero tolerance for corruption to potential foreign investors.

The Speaker, while assuring the people of the state of full implementation of the law, maintained that the state government is not stopping or hindering the federal agencies from doing their jobs, rather complementing and collaborating with them to get better results in the fight against corruption.

Similarly, the Oyo State House of Assembly has received the nomination of the immediate past Deputy Speaker, Hon. AbdulWasi Musah by Governor Seyi Makinde as the Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly Commission.

The Speaker, in a letter presented to the House by the governor and read during the plenary, requested the confirmation of the former Deputy Speaker and four others as chairman and members of the commission.

In the list presented by the governor are Hon. Ojoawo Moses Adewuyi, to represent Oyo South Senatorial District, and Mrs. Iyiade Ladoye, to represent Oyo Central Senatorial District as full time members.

While, Adekunle Iyanda (Oyo South Senatorial District) and  Hon. Ogundoke Hassan (Oyo North Senatorial District) are part time members.

The Speaker, has therefore, directed the nominees to submit their credentials for screening slated for December 3rd, 2019.
