The Oyo State Government has received safety jackets and helmets donated by the Wisdom Estate Landlords’ Association in recognition of the government’s prompt intervention in addressing concerns raised by residents of the estate.
The items were presented on Wednesday to the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, at the ministry’s conference room, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Speaking during the presentation, the Chairman of the Wisdom Estate Landlords’ Association, Mr. Tunde Yusuf, who was represented by Mr. Odudiran, appreciated the Oyo State Government and the Department of Physical Planning for their prompt response to the association’s complaints concerning developments within Wisdom Estate, Bolorunduro, off Olorunda-Aba Road, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.
He explained that the association deemed it appropriate to appreciate the state government for its intervention and positive response to the concerns of the community.
Mr. Odudiran recalled that the association had earlier petitioned the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development through the Department of Physical Planning over the construction of a structure across an existing access road in the estate.
According to him, despite efforts to stop the alleged unauthorised development, the contravener proceeded to construct a decking, classrooms, and office spaces over the access road and later erected a gate, thereby restricting the free movement of residents and other road users.
He said the development eventually prompted the state government to approve the immediate demolition of the structures erected across the access road.
Responding, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, appreciated the Wisdom Estate Landlords’ Association for the gesture and commended its members for their cooperation with the government.
He also called on other associations across the state to continue to support and pray for the success of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
Also present at the event were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Hakim Audu, and other members of the ministry’s management team.
