COVID-19: Pharmaceutical Association Of Nigeria In Ekiti Donates Sanitizers, Others

The Ekiti State Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Association Of Nigeria has donated hand sanitizers and alcohol spray worth a million naira to the State’s Government as part of the association’s effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the State.

The Association’s Chairman, Pharmacist Olusola Amos Ojo who made the donation on Monday at the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency Office located at Adebayo Area in Ado Ekiti said “the gesture is part of the Association’s commitment to support the State Government with our little contribution. We are doing this as a professional body and good citizens of the State to assist the state government in fighting this deadly coronavirus in our State”, he stated.

Pharmacist Olusola continued that the Association is geared up to the responsibility of producing hand sanitizers and alcohol spray due to the adulterated and fake products being sold out to the public in the market. According to him, the responsibility of producing quality products such as sanitizers lies in the hands of the association hence the reason why it has taken up the charge and is ready protect Nigerians from fake products.

Said Olusola “What we produce as pharmacists is the best in the market. We will advice Nigerians to always go to pharmacists’ shops where quality products are being sold and stop purchasing roadside products that might be injurious to their body after use”.

The Chairman, however, stressed that there are several regulated bodies such as the Ministry of Health, NAFDAC, SON and others to check fake products in the State.

Speaking in the same vein, The Director of Pharmaceutical Services of the Association, Pharmacist Olajide Kolawole said that the Association is soliciting for government’s partnership of the initiative in order to reach out to every nooks and crannies of the State with the same gesture.

According to him, with full government support, the Association would be able to touch lives most especially, those of the downtrodden.

While commending the gesture of the Association, the General Manager, Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Olajide Borode said that the donated products would be used for the purpose they are meant for.

“We are going to give all health officials participating in the ongoing exercise at least one sanitizer and one alcohol spray each and the remaining ones will be distributed to the less privileged in the State”.

Mr. Olajide said that SEMA has been receiving relief materials from individuals, bodies, NGO’s since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the State. “In fact, as at yesterday, we received one stock of two hundreds packs of hand washing soaps from Senator Gbenga Aluko and we are still expecting more from NEMA from tomorrow”.

The presentation had in attendance the Secretary on COVID-19, Mrs. Margret Fagbonyo, the entourage of the Pharmaceutical Association, staff of SEMA and media men.
