Nigeria wrestling sensation, Odunayo Adekuoroye, who defended her gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham has married her longtime lover, Oladimeji Aremu Iyanda in a colourful wedding ceremony on Saturday.
The couple, who have been dating since 2016, held their traditional engagement at Adeleye Multipurpose Hall & Event Ltd before walking down the aisle at The Prophetic Church of Nigeria and Overseas before hosting their guest in a reception held at Christ Event Center, Akure, Ondo State.
“This is my happiest moment and I am thankful to God Almighty for his grace,” begins the three-time world medalist in a chat with The Nation ahead of the wedding.
“We met at MFM about six years ago, though I was close with one of his friends. We got to know each other and connected well ever since. Even though I had so many suitors, I won’t date anyone because of money. He has a genuine love for me. He is caring and has all the good qualities a lady will wish for in a man. He didn’t disturb my career but has been supportive since we started dating.
“People believe I’m going to marry a billionaire but what will be the essence if you marry such a person and ended up not having a happy home?
“Our relationship is not built on the material thing but true love and I thank God for making our togetherness a reality,” the African championships gold medalist said.
