A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Vanguard Against Religious Intolerance, has cautioned against victimisation, persecution and killings of non- Muslims in the Northern part of the country.

The President of the body, Alhaji Salisu Muhideen, made the appeal in Kano on Monday while reacting to the recent mayhem unleashed by the Boko Haram sect on innocent citizens.

Alhaji Muhideen who was particularly touched by the experience of one of the victims, Mr Babajide Olawoye, described the act as wild, cruel and inhuman.

The NGO described Islam as a religion of peace, love and tolerance.

The group also disowned those perpetuating violence and vandalism under the guise of Islam adding that they were acting on their own.

The group urged Mr Olawoye and other victims of the insurgency to take solace in the fact that the Almighty God would give them adequate compensation.

Narrating his ordeal to reporters, Mr Olawoye said his travail started in 2002 when he met his wife who was then a Muslim before they got married in 2004 and thereafter converted her to Christianity in Kaduna together with her parents and siblings.

“Since then, her uncle had sworn to deal ruthlessly with me because I converted her and her parents to Christianity.

“Years 2005, 2013 and 2015 were terrible years for my family as direct attacks were made on my family by Boko Haram members. We escaped those attacks by divine intervention”, Mr Olawoye submitted.
