The Osun State House of Assembly will, on Monday, May 8 commence the screening of the Commissioners and Special Advisers nominees sent in by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

A statement signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, in Osogbo on Wednesday said the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam at a plenary session on Wednesday urged the nominees to be punctual for the screening.

The screening according to the Speaker will end on May 11.

It will be recalled that Aregbesola in a letter  dated April 11, sent 39 names of nominees for the post of Commissioners and Special Advisers to the House for confirmation.

The letter which was read by Mr. Speaker read partly, “Pursuant to section 192(2) and 196(2) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I have the honour to forward the list of nominees for consideration and confirmation by the House of Assembly as Commissioners and Special Advisers”.

Besides, the 2017 budget estimate of N138 billion scaled through the second reading at the plenary on Wednesday.

The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Timothy Owoeye,  moved the motion for the consideration for the second reading of the appropriation bill and seconded by the House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Kamil Oyedele.

Oyedele while presenting the report of the committee before the house, said the committee recommended that the budget should be strictly revenue driven.

He also said that all stakeholders should be more pragmatic, proactive and aggressive in their Internally Generated Revenue.

Oyedele, charged the State Internal Revenue Service and other key government agencies to block loopholes and leakages in revenue collection.

It would be recalled that  Aregbesola had on Dec. 21, 2016 presented a budget estimate of N138 billion christened  “budget  of recovery” to the assembly for consideration.

In his remarks, Salaam commended the committee for a job well done and said the assembly will closely monitor the budgetary spending of 2017 budget by the executive.

The Speaker however, said the 2015 procurement law must be strictly followed by the executive in the implementation of the budget.

He said the assembly will not spare anyone that violate the appropriation law.

The motion for the adoption of the report was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Timothy Owoeye and seconded by the Deputy Leader, by Hon. Dejo Osuolale.
