...Hon Gbenga Opaleye...

Concerned by the influx of northerners especially from the Boko Haram-ravaged States of North East into Ring-Road and Oluyole Industrial Estate axis of Ibadan, the new helmsman at the Ibadan South/West Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Opaleye has stepped up security measures within the council area.

The council boss told newsmen after his familiarization tour of the local government that the rate at which Hausa people are gathering at different spots, mostly without shelter is alarming and called for real concern.

“While I was interviewing some of the Hausa men during my visit to where they used to gatherer around Oluyole Estate, Mobil, Ajeigbe and Orita-Challenge, most of them claimed to have escaped from Boko Haram ravaged zones Like Gwoza, Yobe, Adamawa and all that, most of them riding commercial motorcycle”, Opaleye noted.

“I’m not trying to label Hausa people as criminals but we should be wary of undesirable elements that might mix with these people, judging from where they are coming from”, he added

He, however, claimed to have awakened the security consciousness of the law enforcement agencies within the council area, especially during his courtesy visit to all the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) of Police Stations in the local government.

Opaleye said that he has also called the leaders of the Hausa communities in the council area to a roundtable discussion, where some undertakings and assurances were made.

He, however, assured the residents of their safety based on the tight security measures put in place by the council and the healthy collaboration between the Police and other security agencies.
