
About 853 bags of imported rice and worth of N14,630,360 and 395 kegs of vegetable oil have been intercepted by the Oyo/Osun Customs area command.
This was revealed by the New Oyo/Osun area Comptroller, Udo-Aka Emmanuel while briefing news men at the command area office in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Udo-Aka disclosed that the smugglers took advantage of the recent mass deployment of officer and men of the customs service to perpetuate the smuggling acts.
The Comptroller hinted that the smuggled rice were intercepted along Ife-Ibadan express way while another two mazda buses conveying smuggled foreign rice were also impounded along Oko-Ifon road, Osun State.
He, however reiterated the command’s efforts to apprehend smugglers while calling on the public to assist by reporting anytime they discover smugglers’ hideouts.
