After a mild protest organised by undergraduates of the University of Ibadan on Monday May 29, the management of the institution has postponed its 2016/2017 first semester examinations till 17th July 2017.

This development, according to a press release made available to CEOAfrica by the school’s Director of Public Communication, Mr Tunji Oladejo, was necessitated by the prevailing circumstances that surrounded the students of the University of Ibadan taking their agitations outside the campus to the main road: Ojoo/Sango/UI Road.

The students of University of Ibadan, early on Monday morning, took to the streets to protest the delay in the issuance of Identity Cards, a development which would have degenerated into violence but for the timely intervention of the Oyo State Police Command and the Skynet Special Forces led by the Officer in Charge, DSP Ibrahim, who restored peace and order.

The postponement of the examinations was therefore an attempt by the school management to forestall any unpleasant development.

The management of University of Ibadan in the press release advised all undergraduate students to vacate their halls of residence by 6.00pm of Monday, 29 May, 2017 while postgraduate students are expected to remain on campus to continue their research activities.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, has convened an emergency meeting of the University Senate for 12 noon on Tuesday, 30 May, 2017 to review the circumstances that led to the current development.
