The Osun state police command has apprehended three persons who allegedly killed a 400 level Microbiology student of Osun state University, (UNIOSUN), Shonibare Timileyin, who was reportedly missing last week.
Parading the suspects at the police headquarters in Osogbo, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Olufimihan Adeoye said that the suspects confessed to have carried out the dastardly act on June 26, at about 7:30pm, at Oke-Bale Area of Osogbo.
Adeoye who stated further that the suspects killed Shonibare by hitting him on the head with a mortar- pestle said that after they have killed the deceased, his head and two wrists/palms were cut off and the remaining dismembered body dumped in the bush.
He said the case of a missing person was reported to the police by friends of the deceased victim, on June 27 at 7:45pm and that the information and support provided by the victim’s friends led to the arrest of the suspects.
He said investigation by the police led to the arrest of a 19-year-old herbalist apprentice, Sakariyahu Abdulrafiu and two of his friends, Ayuba Ibrahim, 24 and Yusuff Kareem, 18, while the police are on the trail of one other now at large.
He said the head and wrists/palms of the dead student which has been roasted in a black clay pot were recovered from Abdulrafiu when he was arrested and that his confessional statement led to the arrest of his accomplices.
He said the remains of the victim, had been recovered, removed and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted accordingly.
The CP then charged members of the public to be security conscious, as the victim, who was a friend to the prime suspect, Abdulrafiu was lured to his house and killed for their evil plan.
Adeoye also advised the public to be mindful of who they visit, people they keep as friends and places they visit as nobody can be trusted anymore stressing that people need to be highly security conscious.
Meanwhile, following the discovery of the decomposing body of the dead student, students of UNIOSUN went on rampage.
The decomposing body was found near a house around the area where the university campus is located, at Oke-baale, Osogbo.
The irate students of the institution after the discovery of the body according to eye witness moved to the house where the body was found and set it ablaze.
