Lagos State Police Command has announced on Sunday that a family of four have been killed in their home in Ikorodu area of the state adding that it does not look as if cultists are responsible.
The development was confirmed by the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Olarinde Famous-Cole.
In a statement, the police spokesman said a distress call was received in the early hours of the day, leading to the deployment of operatives to the house at Oke Ota, Ibeshe, Ikorodu.
Famous-Cole said the police operatives found it extremely difficult to locate the house, which was situated in a thick forest where it was remotely impossible for anybody to identify a dwelling house.
He said when eventually the operatives arrived at the house, a room and a parlour with one open window and no visible form of security, it was discovered that the family of five was attacked, with three dying on the spot.
One was said to have died while, receiving treatment, leaving just one of them alive.
Famous-Cole said in the statement: “As investigation commenced no visible trace of violence or clues linked to the cultist group was found. No stone was found at the scene. A case of murder is being investigated by police detectives, which doesn’t fit in the style of operation of the cult group.
“The Lagos State Police Command is using this opportunity to call on LCDA, CDA chairman, traditional rulers who know persons staying in isolated areas, which are no longer safe to come and report/identify with the police in order to stop people from packing into obscure areas without proper social structures.
“The command also wishes to inform members of the public to come forward with useful information to aid the police and not resort to jungle justice while investigation is ongoing in order not to jeopardise the investigation that may lead to the arrest of the alleged suspects who are on the command’s watch list.”
