Osun state government on Tuesday said that as part of measures to curtail monkey pox virus in the state, its health personnels have been put on red alert to prevent the spread of the virus.
Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, said necessary measures have been put in place to prevent the virus in the state.
He disclosed that the state government has established three isolation centres in case of the outbreak of the virus.
Isamotu said primary health centres in the state have been prepared with adequate training so as to refer any victim of the virus to any of the three isolation centres in the state.
He said, “We have been proactive, we have sent signals to all health officers in the state to be on red alert.
“Our hospital in Osun are working, our health workers are on the field to sensitise the people and educate them properly.”
The commissioner who noted that the virus has no specific treatment yet, urged members of the public on the need to observe and maintain a proper high standard of personal and environmental hygiene at all times in order to prevent the disease.
He recalled the proactive measure taken by the state during the outbreak of Ebola and assured that the people of the state would be enlightened more on the danger of Monkey pox.
Isamotu added that the state government has started sensitizing the public about the virus through jingles on both radio and television stations in the state.
He then urged members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspected case of the virus to the Director of public health on 08033908772 and 08035638608 for any emergency.
