The Ogun State House of Assembly has expressed its readiness to partner with the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology at ensuring the successful implementation of its Junior Achievement Programmes (JAP) geared towards revamping the state educational sector at all levels for sustainable development.
The programme is a public-private initiative designed to improve on the teaching and learning process meant to enhance the overall performance of students in the State.
Members of the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology led by Hon. Victor Fasanya gave the assurance during the committee’s visit to the Ministry to assess its 2017 budget performance at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.
He said that the State Legislature parades seasoned administrators and professionals who had garnered varied experience and skills in teaching and other vocations to support the programme to achieve the desired result.
Fasanya accompanied by other members of the Committee including Israel Jolaoso, Ganiyu Oyedeji, Viwanu Ojo and Oyenuga Olufowobi, promised that the Assembly was committed to partnering with the Ministry to reposition the sector for more efficiency through improved knowledge acquisition and impartation that would equip students in the public schools in the State to compete favorably with their counterpart in any part of the globe.
The lawmakers commended the Ministry for its ingenuity at ensuring educational prosperity in the State, underscoring the State’s investment in education which had helped in building solid foundation in the sector which according to them had been yielding positive results.
Earlier in her remarks, the State Education Commissioner, Mrs. Modupe Mujota explained that JAP was a public-private initiative designed to improve on the overall standard of education in the State, pointing out that with the scheme in place, private partners and organisations would be deployed to public primary schools to instill technical and vocational education, global citizen practices as well as inculcate leadership skills and entrepreneurship spirit in students across the State.
She added that members of the State Executive Council would kick-start the scheme with a view to teaching the students leadership skills in governance, taking advantage of their experience in the operation of government agencies in the State.
Mujota also disclosed that to further give fillip to the qualitative education programme of government, additional five model schools would soon be commissioned in different parts of the State; adding that the Ministry in conjunction with State Universal Basic Education Board also did audit of facilities in schools to promote maintenance culture in schools across the State.
