Super Falcons of Nigeria picked maximum points in the group stages of the 2018 WAFU Women’s Cup of Nations following Monday’s 3-1 victory against Togo and are now set to face Ghana’s Black Queens in a mouthwatering semi-final clash.
The Super Falcons got off to a flying start after a cagey 40 minutes with Anam Imo beating Togolese goalkeeper Amouklou Ame from close range to score and Chinaza Uchendu headed in a cross from Chioma Wogu to increase Nigeria’s tally at the start of the second half.
In the 71st minute, Wogu tapped in a rebound after Togolese goalkeeper Ame failed to hold on to the ball from Lilian Tule’s freekick.
Togo grabbed a late consolatory goal in the 81st from the spot. Woedikou Afi converted the spot kick after Glory fouled Togolese striker Gnintegegma Odette in the box.
Mali join Nigeria from in the next round after they stunned Senegal 1-0 in the other group match.
Ivory Coast and Ghana claimed emphatic wins over Niger and Burkina Faso on Sunday to storm to the WAFU Women’s Cup semi-finals.
The semi-final games will hold on 21 February.
