The regular and social media are awash again with the news of another attack carried out against innocent school girls at Government Girls Science Secondary School in Dapchi, Yobe State by suspected militants.

From news-reports, no government’s security arm can confirm the identity of those who attacked the school in the evening of Monday, February 19, 2018.

Two days after the attack, hapless parents were still in the school asking questions nobody was ready to answer.

Yet, scores of young girls aged 11 and above are still missing and the unofficial explanation is that most of the girls escaped to neighbouring villages.

Just as it was in 2009 when the notorious Boko Haram disaster started, the Federal Government has still not taken any bold move to show that it is interested in this development.

As at today, about 112 of the 276 Chibok Girls abducted by the Boko Haram elements are still not accounted for.

As we enunciated earlier, the girls are said to have escaped into villages. But nobody knows the number of those who escaped, nobody knows the number of those abducted and there is also no record of those who got lucky and are presently with their parents or guardians.

Most Nigerians, especially those living in the South West of Nigeria where there is relative tranquility, have not been showing enough concern over this issue of attacks by militants.

Nigerians should not wait until international bodies lead in the search for these young girls. The issue must not be allowed to degenerate and become another Chibok saga.

Solution can only come when all hands are put on deck to jointly work to put an end to the nefarious activities of these militants.

To keep Nigeria united, we must all learn to be our brothers and sisters’ keepers.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
