In a bid to consolidate on the recently held maiden Media Shooting Workshop and Competition for sports journalists in Abuja by Nigeria Shooting Federation and to inculcate shooting sport into the minds of Nigerians starting with sports journalists who are expected to report and promote the sport, the chairman Oyo State Shooting Association’s Daley Coker has revealed his plan to soon host such seminar for Oyo sports journalists.
Coker made this revelation while speaking with newsmen in Ibadan after arriving from the one-week seminar where about 40 sports journalists were trained in different aspect of the shooting sports.
He said the first process towards introducing the sports to grassroots here is to make the sports journalists have good understanding of all the intricacies of the game before they are expected to report and promote the shooting sports to the wider world.
“Some journalists that took part in the Abuja seminar found the shooting sports very interesting after they were training on uses and applications of Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Laser Run Game, Paint Ball Game and other technically related games and weapons.
My desire is to replicate such for our media men here in Oyo State so that they would be automatically qualified to attend and cover all shooting sport workshops and competitions across the world”, he noted.
He, however, thanked the commissioner for Youths and Sports on the state, Yomi Oke and the general manager of Oyo State Sports Counci, Gboyega Makinde for their efforts in encouraging the sport in the state, adding that all hands would be on desk to finalise plans for the media workshop.
