Just some few days after being honoured by the Jericho Business Club, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria has added another feather to his cap.
On Saturday, 28th of April, 2018, his alma mater, Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan, through its Old Boys’ Association conferred its highest honour- Grand Distinguished Lagelite Award on him.
The event which was a Post-Anniversary Luncheon, Award & Presentation of Diamond Anniversary Reports was organized by the National Executive Council and was sponsored by the Capital Express Assurance & Bayo Adelabu Foundation. It was specifically packaged to receive the Anniversary Reports and confer the highest Lagelu Grammar School Old Boys Association Award on the great banker who was perceived to have distinguished himself in his contributions to the uplift of the society in general and the school specifically.
In his address, the National President, Grand Distinguished Lagelite Prof. Chief Olufemi Omisore, FNITP, JP thanked all members of the association for their support before, during and after the Anniversary of the School. He specifically commended the Chairman, Diamond Anniversary Committee, Distinguished Lagelite Tony Aletor and his committee for a job well done.
The Chairman, Diamond Anniversary Committee, Distinguished Lagelite Tony Aletor x-rayed the activities of the 60th Anniversary and expressed his appreciation to all Lagelites and specifically the National President who has supported his committee in the task of restoring Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan to its old glory. He said his committee through the support he got internally and externally was able to change the face of the School. He finally gave a blow-by-blow account of the income and expenditures of the 60th Anniversary. The report was later adopted.
The climax of the Post Anniversary Luncheon was the conferment of the Grand Distinguished Alumnus Award on Chairman, Lagelu Grammar School Governing Board & Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief Adebayo Adekola Adelabu, FCA, FCIB and the National President, Prof. Chief Olufemi Omisore, FNITP, JP in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the development of Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan.
Responding, Grand Distinguished Lagelite Chief Adebayo Adelabu, FCA, FCIB in his brief speech called for a minute silence in honour of the departed Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Michael Olusegun Adesina who died on Friday, 27 April, 2018.
The Agbaakin Parakoyi of Ibadanland described the late Speaker as a friend, compatriot and loyalist who believed in the development of Oyo State. He later prayed to God Almighty to give the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Grand Distinguished Lagelite Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, the deceased family and the good people of Oyo State the fortitude to bear the huge loss.
He spoke further by itemizing some of the giant strides he has made as the Chairman, Lagelu Grammar School Governing Board which included the recruitment of 14 teachers to improve our students’ performance. He said these teachers are paid directly by the School Governing Board with a promise to employ more very soon. He finally thanked the leadership of the association for finding him worthy of the highest honour and promised not to let them down.
The programme had in attendance the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Grand Distinguished Lagelite Col. Adebola Ogunsanwo, National President, Grand Distinguished Lagelite Prof. Chief Olufemi Omisore, FNITP, JP and his wife, Mrs. Olufunke Omisore, Chairman, School Governing Board, Grand Distinguished Lagelite Chief Adebayo Adelabu, FCA, FCIB and his wife, Mrs. Oluwaseyi Adelabu, former National President, Chief Prof. Harry Ladapo, fmr. Secretary to the Oyo State Government & Anniversary Auditor at large, Alh. Chief Akin Olajide, fmr. Special Adviser on Labour Matters to Gov. Lam Adesina, Hon. Layi Agbaje, Member, Board of Trustees, Grand Distinguished Lagelite Alh. Azeez Oladotun Bello, fmr. Chairman, HEBN, Distinguished Lagelite Ayo Ojeniyi, fmr. Principal & Federal Commissioner, Federal Revenue & Fiscal Commission, Abuja, Otunba Sina Ademola, Distinguished Lagelite Owolabi Salami, Alh. Amidu Adedokun, Distinguished Lagelite Yisau Aderenle Ayantola, Dr. Laolu Adepoju, 1st National Vice President, Distinguished Lagelite Dr. Bayo Windapo JP, members of the National Executive Council, Secretary, Ibadan branch, Lagelite Wole Ojetola, Set Chairmen, leaders, eminent old boys from all sets too numerous to mention, APC leaders and supporters, family and friends of the Oyo State Gubernatorial hopeful, Chief Adebayo Adekola Adelabu all came to support their own.
Members and guests were later treated to a sumptuous lunch before departure.
