A member of the upper chamber of the National Assembly from Oyo State, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi (SOJ) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his now popular declaration of June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day.
Senator Akanbi, who represents Oyo South Senatorial district in a telephone conversation with PMParrot, while in Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj commended President Muhamadu Buhari for the conferment of posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), on Late Basorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.
He saluted the courage of President Buhari for taking a bold step in recognising the father of modern democracy in Nigeria in the person of Late MKO Abiola, who laid down his life to give Nigeria a democratic government.
Senator Akanbi also used the medium to plead with President Muhamadu Buhari to “take a step further by instructing the INEC CHAIRMAN in 1993, Professor Humphrey Nwosu to declare the result of the remaining 16 states as we are all aware that 20 States were released before the annulment of the election and also declare Late Basorun M.K.O Abiola as the President elect.”
He continued further “it’s no more a news again that 1993 election was free and fair and the most credible election ever had in Nigeria, even the International community attested to it.”
Senator Akanbi, who happened to be a member of House of Representative during the third Republic, described the decision of President Muhamadu Buhari as a gift that he personally holds to his chest.
Senator Akanbi in his closing remark rejoiced and congratulated the good people of Oyo South Senatorial District and the entire people of Oyo State by saying “Happy June 12” to them.
