One of the grandsons of late political icon, Adegoke Adelabu Penkelemess, and one of the leading governorship aspirants in the ruling All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu has revealed that his late granddad left about 2000 pounds in his account when he died.

The youthful politician made this revelation on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 while featuring on a popular radio programme aired on Splash 105.5 FM in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State. It was monitored by PMParrot.

The politician who recently retired as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also told his audience that his father and his other siblings were sent to school by political associates of his late grandfather.

His words “it is erroneous for people to see me as a super rich man. When my grand father died, it was not long after that that my father died too. He was only 33 years old when he died in 1975. He left me and my six other siblings at the mercy of God and my grandmother.

“While living with my grandmother, I hawked pepper, onions, soft drinks and had a lot of fun learning to be hard working at that tender age.

“This experience has helped me. Those close to me know that there is nothing like impossibility in my dictionary. I work towards achieving resounding success. That is why my records as a banker till I got to the Central Bank of Nigeria are enviable. My sojourn at the CBN yielded a lot of fruits for the people of Nigeria and Nigeria. That is why I was commended by President Muhammadu Buhari when he sent me the letter of acceptance of my voluntary resignation.

While speaking on why he is interested in becoming the governor of Oyo State come 2019, the Adelabu scion said “the decision was borne out of genuine desire to serve. I left a very plum job to venture into active politics because I have sincere belief that I can serve and be more useful for my people as governor.

“As a member of the Adelabu clan, when I become the governor, our people can be rest assured that I will add more value to that name.”

He also took time to discuss the lingering crisis rocking APC in Oyo State.

According to him, “the ongoing crisis in APC is a family issue and I can’t get involved in it. The crisis will be settled by elders, leaders and chieftains in the party”.

Chief Bayo Adelabu, who is the Agbaakin Parakoyi Oluubadan of Ibadanland noted that for a government to be known as a responsible government, the welfare of the citizenry should remain its utmost priority. He added that social amenities such as accommodation, standard health facilities and good transportation must be adequately provided for the use of the masses.

He reiterated that based on his mission and vision in politics, he has decided to make people the center of focus of his administration, hence the campaign slogan, “live and let’s live”.

In order to justify his vision and mission, Chief Bayo Adelabu said he established the Adebayo Adelabu Foundation to cater for the aged, widows, people with disability and the less privileged in the society.
