Another feather was recently added to the cap of the Minority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige as he was honoured with the “EMANCIPATOR OF THE MASSES AWARD” by the African Newspapers of Nigeria plc, publishers of Tribune titles.

Speaking at the Award/Gala Night organized by the Tribune Chapel to mark its NUJ Press Day which was held at Tribune Hall, Imalefalafia, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the Managing Director of Tribune who was represented by Pastor Sulaiman Olanrewaju explained that the organization which has created a name for itself decided to honour Hon. Ige for the third time having observed his track records as a politician driven by the spirit of humanity and patriotism to better the standard of the society.

According to him, “Tribune Newspaper as an organization gives award to deserving members of the public irrespective of their status. In carrying out our constitutional obligation as watchdog of the society, we have painstakingly observed Hon. Ige and found him worthy to be honoured with this award for the third time and this award can be taken anywhere because Tribune has gotten a name.” The Managing Director submitted.

In his remark, the chairman NUJ,  Tribune chapel, Mr Tunde Busari congratulated Hon. Ige for being the recipient of Tribune award for the third  time, stressing that this feat has demonstrated that truly, Hon. Ige is man of the masses who always renders selfless service to the people of his immediate environment and beyond.

In his response, Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige who represents Ibadan South  constituency II in the House of Assembly appreciated the organization for counting him worthy for the award which he said would spur him to do more in rendering selfless service to humanity.

He, however, used the occasion to admonish politicians who are fond of using the late sage and founder of the organization’s name, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo to solicit support during electioneering campaigns to desist from doing so, but rather, they should emulate the good virtues of performances, achivemevents and enduring legacies that the late sage was known for so that Nigerians would have a better country.

He hinted that this became imperative in view of the fact that politicians when they get to political positions, they easily forget the promises they made with Chief Awolowo’s name and fail to fulfil their electoral promises.

Hon. Ademola Ige was honoured alongside a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan South East/North East federal constituency, Hon. Dapo Lam Adesina who was represented by Hon. Nurudeen Ogunlakin, Barrister Seyi Akinkunmi, first Vice President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, Mr Adebutu Kesington among others.
